Egypt prosecutors question Mubarak's sons
CAIRO |
CAIRO (Reuters) - Prosecutors from Egypt's South Sinai region began questioning ousted President Hosni Mubarak's two sons, a judicial source said on Tuesday.
Alaa and Gamal Mubarak were summoned by Egyptian state prosecutors probing accusations of embezzlement. Their father has said details of their bank accounts will disprove suspicions of profiteering and illegal gains.
Mubarak's younger son Gamal held a top post in Egypt's former ruling party. A widely-held belief that he was being groomed for the presidency helped galvanize the popular opposition that toppled his father from power.
After the revolution, Alaa accused his brother of ruining their father's final days in office by promoting the political careers of his business allies, a state newspaper has said.
