Air Lease interested in buying ILFC - Bloomberg
NEW YORK, April 20
NEW YORK, April 20 (Reuters) - Newly public aircraft leasing business Air Lease Corp (AL.N) would like to buy competitor ILFC from American International Group (AIG.N), Air Lease's chief executive told Bloomberg Television on Wednesday.
In an interview at the New York Stock Exchange, Steven Udvar-Hazy said he "absolutely" would like to buy ILFC, which he founded before selling it to AIG, Bloomberg said.
An Air Lease spokeswoman declined to comment. An AIG spokesman was not immediately available to comment.
AIG has acknowledged that ILFC is not a core operation and that it is unlikely to be part of the company in the future, but at the same time top executives have said the business is not explicitly for sale now.
Hazy took Air Lease public earlier this week, raising more than $800 million. The influential aviation executive left ILFC in early 2010.
