Italy lawmakers want CDP to invest only in healthy firms

ROME, April 20 | Wed Apr 20, 2011 6:28am EDT

ROME, April 20 (Reuters) -Italian lawmakers have presented an amendment to a decree which specifies that state holding Cassa Depositi e Prestiti can invest only in financially healthy companies.

CDP has changed its status to allow it to acquire strategic stakes in national enterprises. The move is part of a drive by Economy Minister Giulio Tremonti to protect Parmalat (PLT.MI), Italy's biggest food group, from takeover by Lactalis of France.
