NEW YORK, NY, Apr 21 (MARKET WIRE) -- Marz Lovejoy isn't your typical 19-year-old. While her debut EP, "This Little Light Of Mine," out now on iHipHop Distribution, continues to garner critical praise, Marz has landed her first feature film role in first-time director Sheldon Candis' "L.U.V." In the film, Marz Lovejoy shares the screen with Common, Michael K. Williams, and Meagan Good, as well as acting great Danny Glover. "I'm thrilled by the opportunity of this role," said the Los Angeles native. "I'm taking it all in with a humble approach; just feeling really blessed." According to Variety, the film tells the day-long story of a shy 13-year-old boy named Woody, who in search of his family, finds companionship with his troubled ex-con uncle, played by Common. "Vincent is a uniquely conflicted character," said Common. "I found an appeal in his desire to move past his failures and onto the right track, and the challenges that presents." Filming for "L.U.V." is currently underway in Baltimore, Maryland. Marz has played numerous shows across the country since the release of "This Little Light Of Mine," which OkayPlayer.com described as "an excellent debut... as she has the ability to craft catchy hooks to make some noise in the mainstream crowd, and she has the lyrical prowess to hang with the best of the underground." In March, she made her SXSW debut, performing alongside Erykah Badu, Wu-Tang Clan, and Yelawolf, among others. New York Times writer John Pareles heralded Marz as "Among the best I heard" during the week-long music festival. In addition, the music video for Marz's single, "Love Bullet Gun," is currently in airing on MTVu. Marz Lovejoy's "This Little Light Of Mine" is currently available on iTunes. "Marz Lovejoy is a natural talent and makes a great addition to the cast," says Hollywood producer Gordon Bijelonic. "L.U.V." is a co-production of FilmForward Independent, Bijelonic/Turner Films and Stony Island Films. Producers are Jason M. Berman (Seven Days in Utopia), Gordon Bijelonic (Another Happy Day), Michael Jenson, Joel Newton, Datari Turner (Video Girl), Common and Derek Dudley. The film was cast by Mary Vernieu, C.S.A. and Lindsay Graham. Eric Christensen at HSI has come on board to handle foreign sales.
