April 28 (Reuters) - Health information technology company Cerner Corp posted a better-than-expected quarterly profit, helped by strong bookings, and raised its 2011 outlook.
The company now expects 2011 adjusted earnings of $3.55-$3.62 a share, on sales of $2.07-$2.12 billion. It had earlier forecast earnings of $3.50-$3.60 a share, on revenue of $2.05-$2.1 billion.
Analysts on average were expecting earnings of $3.56 a share, on revenue of $2.08 billion, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
The company's first-quarter net income rose to $64.60 million, or 75 cents a share, from $50.3 million, or 59 cents a share, a year ago.
Excluding items, it earned 80 cents a share. Revenue rose 14 percent to $491.7 million.
Analysts on average expected earnings of 76 cents a share, excluding special items, on revenue of $485.3 million.
