ZEELAND, MI, Apr 28 (MARKET WIRE) --
Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX), the Zeeland, Michigan-based
manufacturer of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and camera-based
active-safety systems for the automotive industry, commercial fire
protection products and dimmable aircraft windows, has announced that it
is supplying auto-dimming mirrors with its SmartBeam(R) high-beam
headlamp assist technology for the all-new 2011 Dodge Durango and Dodge
Charger. The Durango, a full-size support utility vehicle (SUV), and the
Charger, a world-class performance sedan, are both currently being sold
in the United States and Canada.
The Durango features interior auto-dimming mirrors with microphones as
standard equipment on the Crew, Citadel, Heat, and RT trim levels, and as
part of the Popular Equipment Group optional package on the Express trim
level. In addition, SmartBeam intelligent headlamps are part of the Entry
Nav/Commuter group on Crew, and standard on the CrewLux and Citadel trim
levels.
An auto-dimming mirror with microphones is standard equipment on the 2011
Dodge Charger models equipped with the Rallye, Rallye Plus, RT, RT Plus,
RT Road & Track, and R/T Max packages. SmartBeam is standard equipment on
the R/T Max trim level and is available as part of the Driver Confidence
Group package on most of the other trim levels.
"The all-new 2011 Dodge Durango and Charger are both highly recognizable
names in the auto industry. Gentex is excited to offer its new SmartBeam
technology on these vehicles, especially in their 'home market,'" stated
Enoch Jen, Gentex Senior Vice President.
SmartBeam is integrated into a Gentex auto-dimming mirror, which
automatically darkens to eliminate glare from the headlamps of vehicles
approaching from the rear. It uses a miniature camera-on-a-chip combined
with algorithmic decision-making to automatically operate a vehicle's
high beams in order to optimize their usage according to surrounding
traffic conditions. The system maximizes forward lighting while
eliminating the repetitive task of turning the high beams on and off
manually.
Founded in 1974, Gentex Corporation (NASDAQ: GNTX) is the leading
supplier of automatic-dimming rearview mirrors and camera-based active
safety systems to the global automotive industry. The Company also
provides commercial smoke alarms and signaling devices to the North
American fire protection market, as well as dimmable aircraft windows for
the commercial, business and general aviation markets. Based in Zeeland,
Michigan, the international Company develops, manufactures and markets
interior and exterior automatic-dimming automotive rearview mirrors that
utilize proprietary electrochromic technology to dim in proportion to the
amount of headlight glare from trailing vehicle headlamps. More than half
of the Company's interior mirrors are sold with advanced electronic
features, and more than 98 percent of the Company's net sales are derived
from the sale of auto-dimming mirrors to nearly every major automaker in
the world.
