Best Buy Contributes $100,000 to Support Storm Relief Efforts in Southeastern U.S.
Donation through American Red Cross to aid impacted communities in relief and recovery
MINNEAPOLIS, April 29, 2011 - On behalf of its 180,000 employees worldwide, Best Buy Co., Inc. (NYSE:BBY) has made a $100,000 donation to support the immediate response efforts to the recent outbreak of storms throughout the Southern United States. The contribution was made to the American Red Cross to help advance their disaster relief, recovery and restoration efforts in affected communities across several states.
"The heartfelt thoughts and prayers of Best Buy employees across the country go out to the residents affected by the devastating storms in the Southeast," said Paula Prahl, senior vice president of Communications, Public Affairs, and Corporate Responsibility for Best Buy. "Our donation is made with the recognition that the American Red Cross is well suited to ensure the safety and recovery of those impacted and will assist in rebuilding these communities."
Company employees interested in volunteering or making personal donations to help with the Southern United States disaster are encouraged to contact local Red Cross organizations to learn about local fundraising opportunities. Employees can also donate $10 via mobile phones by texting 90999 to support the relief efforts.
