S.Korea will invite North to summit if conditions met

BERLIN May 9 (Reuters) - South Korean President Lee Myung-bak said on Monday he stood ready to invite North Korea's leader Kim Jong-il to a nuclear security summit next March if he agreed to renounce atomic weapons.

"North Korea should say clearly beforehand that it renounces nuclear weapons," he told reporters after meeting German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin. "Only when this pledge has been made will we extend the invitation," he said through a translator. (Reporting by Annika Breidthardt)
