SANTA CRUZ, CA, May 18 (MARKET WIRE) --
Plantronics (NYSE: PLT) today announced the availability of their new
software plug-in designed specifically for IBM unified communications and
collaboration UC(2)software to help organizations embrace social business
concepts.
The new integration between IBM UC(2) software, Sametime and Sametime
Unified Telephony (SUT), and Plantronics provides a seamless unified
communications experience to users with intelligent, high quality, audio
and call control across a multitude of UC devices including the PC,
softphone and deskphone. This announcement illustrates Plantronics
working closely with IBM to enhance the capability of unified
communications offerings.
The software enhances productivity through new calling capabilities for
online meetings, video conferences, and PC-based calls and was named an
IBM Lotus 2011 Award finalist in the "Enhancing Business Value through UC
Solutions" category.
The Plantronics software offers the following
functionality:
-- Control Sametime Calls Remotely: walk, talk, and multitask with the
ability to answer/end, mute, and control call volume and manage
multiple calls remotely from the headset
-- Smart Sensor(TM) Technology Wearing Status: Built in sensors deliver
automatic functionality like answering a call by placing the headset
on and simultaneously updating softphone availability status
-- Mobile Phone Presence: Automatically changes Sametime presence status
to 'on phone' when on a mobile call
-- Synchronized UC Presence: Updates presence status in Sametime and
Skype(R) PC clients
"Unified communications is helping reinvent how people work,
providing a new, seamless and transparent way of connecting," said Caleb
Barlow, director of UC(2), IBM. "UC(2)done right includes all elements of
enterprise communications, including voice, instant messaging, video, and
of course the highest quality of audio, which is typically derived from
headsets. UC(2)is helping organizations take one step closer to becoming
a social business -- one that embraces networks of people to get real
work done."

"The Plantronics software built expressly for IBM Sametime now has new
autosensing capabilities with our Voyager(R) Pro UC Bluetooth(R) headset
for use on the softphone and mobile phone," said Michael Gjerstad, vice
president of Strategic Partnerships at Plantronics. "We focus on making
the collaboration application more social and more intelligent by
providing headsets capable of sensing the user's availability and
reporting that information directly back to Sametime. Additionally, this
new software will integrate with Plantronics' Savi(R) wireless headsets
and solutions within the company's new product portfolio," continued
Gjerstad.
Plantronics will reveal the new product portfolio on May 18, 2011 during
the company's 50th anniversary celebration and live webcast featuring
