Littelfuse Co-Sponsors First Chinese Driver to Enter Indy 500
First Indy 500 sponsorship for Littelfuse supports the company’s growing presence in China and its strong partnership with Mouser Electronics
Littelfuse, Inc. (NASDAQ: LFUS), the world leader in circuit protection, announced today that it will join Mouser Electronics, a design engineering resource and global distributor for semiconductors and electronic components, in sponsoring Ho-Pin Tung as he enters the qualifying races for the Indianapolis 500 this weekend. If Tung, who has completed a test run topping 220 miles per hour, succeeds in qualifying for the race, he will be the first Chinese national to compete in this event.
This is the first time Littelfuse is participating in a sponsorship of this kind. “This is an exciting opportunity to strengthen our partnership with Mouser Electronics and to build awareness of our brand and our company’s growing presence in China,” said Gordon Hunter, Chief Executive Officer of Littelfuse. “Best of all, Ho-Pin Tung has the chance to make history through these qualifying events. We wish him the very best this weekend!”
Tung will drive the number 8 Dallara/Honda/Firestone entry for Schmidt Dragon Racing in the qualifying events this weekend. He is now in his second year as a Formula 1 test driver for the Lotus Renault GP team. His career began at age 14 racing Karts, and two of his key career wins include the 2003 Asian Formula 1 BMW Championship and the 2006 German Formula 3 Championship.
This is the third year of a three-year long centennial celebration for the Indianapolis Speedway, with this year marking the 100th anniversary of the first Indianapolis 500 race, which took place in 1911. The qualifying runs take place Saturday and Sunday, May 21-22 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and the official race will be held on Sunday, May 29, beginning at noon Eastern Standard Time. The Indianapolis 500 has been described as one of the most significant motor sport events in the world.
