UPDATE 1-Plains restarts Rainbow oil pipeline

CALGARY, Alberta | Wed May 25, 2011 4:51pm EDT

CALGARY, Alberta May 25 (Reuters) - Plains All American Pipeline LP (PAA.N) said on Wednesday it restarted the southern leg of the Rainbow oil pipeline, 10 days after wildfires forced it to close, shutting in about 150,000 barrels per day of oil production in the region it serves.

Plains said the southern portion of the line, running from the Nipisi terminal 80 kilometers (50 miles) northeast of Slave Lake, Alberta, to the provincial capital of Edmonton, was restarted at 1:00 p.m. local time (1900 GMT).

The northern portion of the 187,000 bpd line, running from Zama in northwestern Alberta to Nipisi, remains closed following an April 29 oil spill. (Reporting by Scott Haggett; editing by Peter Galloway)
