£12 Million Development Underway at NGD Europe Data Centre

Data centre company builds seven more halls following £20 Million of contracts

Next Generation Data Limited today announced a £12M development plan to build a further seven data halls at NGD Europe, the data centre it opened near Cardiff last year.

Due for completion by the end of 2011, the expansion project is being funded by shareholders and follows new tenancy agreements worth over £20M signed this year with several blue chip multinational organisations. This includes the company’s first contract with a Technology-based Fortune 100 US headquartered corporation.

Next Generation Data’s expansion strategy will ensure it continues to maximise the opportunity for providing secure space, power and cooling infrastructure to a growing list of corporate customers.

Simon Taylor, chairman, Next Generation Data Limited, said: “The main driver for building the additional data hall capacity this year is to meet demand from large organisations based in Europe and, increasingly, North America where our targeted US sales strategy is clearly starting to pay off handsomely.”

“Next Generation Data’s growing success demonstrates there is significant pent up demand for data centres outside of the traditional locations in London and the South East,” said Mark Larard, director of the Data Centre Advisory Group for global real estate advisors, Jones Lang LaSalle. “The company continues to challenge industry expectations and offers a serious alternative for organisations searching for an excellent deal on security, power and cost-effective space.”

Tom Freeman, managing director of US-based, Jones Lang LaSalle Data Center Solutions added, “There are very few data centre sites truly capable of providing global data hubs. What Next Generation Data are creating in South Wales is one of the only developments of its type outside of the United States that meets the suitability standards required by US corporates. We are finding that our global clients are looking to extend their networks outside of North America and I suspect that the level of power, bandwidth, security and speed-to-market which NGD Europe can provide will make this site an extremely exciting prospect.”

Opened in early 2010 with BT as one of its first anchor tenants, the 750,000 square foot NGD Europe development is the largest data centre facility in Europe.
