PARIS, June 23 (Reuters) - French nuclear specialist Areva (AREVA.PA) said on Thursday it had created a new joint venture in China specialising in the construction and maintenance of equipment at certain Chinese power plants.

The French company signed a deal with China Nuclear Power Technology Research Institute, a subsidiary of China GuangDong Nuclear Power Company, a long-standing partner of Areva.

As a result of the partnership, Areva has signed a contract with CNPEC 3 for the supply of control systems for the core of two reactors at the Ningde power plant, located in Fujian Province, in south east China. Areva did not supply any financial details.
