* American in sale-leaseback deal with AerCap

* Deal covers 26 previously ordered 737s, 3 new orders

CHICAGO, July 15 (Reuters) - AMR Corp's AMR.N American Airlines said on Friday that it had reached a sale-leaseback deal with aircraft leasing company AerCap for financing on up to 35 Boeing Co (BA.N) 737-800 Next Generation planes.

AerCap has agreed to buy 26 previously ordered planes and three newly ordered planes from American and lease them back to the airline. The deal also extends to six options to buy 737s.

Deliveries for these planes have already begun and are scheduled to continue through 2013. If American exercises the options, delivery would be scheduled for 2013 and 2014. (Reporting by Kyle Peterson; Editing by Lisa Von Ahn)
