Deals of the day -- mergers and acquisitions

July 22 (Reuters) - The following bids, mergers, acquisitions and disposals involving European, U.S. and Asian companies were reported by 2000 GMT on Friday.

** The Indian cabinet has approved Reliance Industries' plan to sell a stake in 21 of 23 planned oil and gas blocks to BP as part of a $7.2 billion deal, Indian oil minister S. Jaipal Reddy said on Friday.
** Romania did not receive enough competitive bids for a stake in oil and gas group Petrom , the Economy Ministry said, raising doubts over a privatisation drive promised in return for international aid.
** Embattled global media group News Corp said on Friday it has sold its 79 percent stake in News Outdoor Russia and News Outdoor Romania to a group of investors led by Russia's second-biggest bank VTB .
** Nordic and emerging market telecoms firm Tele2 (TEL2b.ST) said on Friday it would pay about 890 Swedish crowns ($139) million in cash for mobile firm Network Norway, as it looks to gain scale in a market where competition is tough and costs are rising.
** Lafarge , the world's largest cement maker, said it was selling its Australian gypsum business to privately owned German rival Knauf for 120 million euros ($172 million) as part of its plans to reduce debt.
** 3M Co said it agreed to acquire the do-it-yourself and professional business of GPI Group that employs about 450 people, and has sales in France and western Europe.
** Schneider Electric SA said it is buying Brazilian low-voltage group Steck Da Amazonia Industrial Electrica for an undisclosed amount. Steck expected to generate 2011 revenue of around 80 million euros.
** Inpex Corp , Japan's top oil and gas developer, said on Friday its joint venture with a Japanese government affiliate will sell a 30 percent stake in Indonesia's Abadi gas field in the Masela block of the Timor Sea to Royal Dutch Shell (RDSa.L).
** JB Chemicals and Pharmaceuticals Ltd to sell its Russia-CIS Rx business to Dr Reddy's Laboratories for consideration of about 1.37 billion rupees. The board approved deal which includes product registrations, intellectual properties.
** Canada's Zarlink Semiconductor , subject to a hostile takeover bid by Microsemi Corp , said it has begun a review of its strategic alternatives.
** BlackBerry maker Research In Motion said on Friday it has bought Swedish video editing company JayCut and hinted the operation will work on features for its PlayBook tablet computer.
