Paradise Unveils LinkGuard™, A New 24/7 Weapon To Fight In-band Interference
Unlike traditional stand-alone detection solutions, LinkGuard™ is embedded in each modem for an effective and affordable ‘first line of defense”. Provides automated monitoring and alarms for every carrier in every modem.
Paradise Datacom, a Teledyne Technologies company (NYSE: TDY), announced the release of a new breakthrough technology in the satellite industry’s long battle against In-band satellite interference and its negative impacts on bottom line revenues and costs.
Called LinkGuard™, the new detection technology allows operators for the first time to do pro-active, 24/7 interference monitoring of all modem carriers at all times with no disruption to live modem traffic, and without the need for an operator to be present. A “first line of defense” solution, LinkGuard is complimentary to the sophisticated stand-alone detection equipment on the market today. However, since LinkGuard ships standard and embedded in Paradise modems, it gives operators a powerful new detection capability that until now has been economically cost-prohibitive for most operators.
Working in concert with Paradise’s on-board spectrum analyzer, LinkGuard’s exclusive Signal-Under-Carrier interference detection provides automated, round-the-clock monitoring “at source” in the modem from local or remote locations. This patent-pending technology can identify previously undetected interference due to other Modulated Carriers, tonal interferers (such as CW), poor Cross-polarization Rejection, Radar and Jammers, and intermittent signals such as WiMAX. LinkGuard continues to work even when carrier overlap technology is being used to reuse transponder space segment.
“With LinkGuard, operators now have a critical new weapon to diagnose and resolve link problems from interference-under-carriers before they impact quality of service and revenues,” said John Restivo, VP and General Manager for Teledyne Paradise Datacom. “This pro-active, automated tool will also reduce the cost side of the equation for operators, minimizing diagnostic time and resulting in quicker deployments, lower maintenance costs, less link degradation and less link down time. It’s the latest in Paradise’s long line of industry firsts in pioneering leading edge, web-based link diagnostic tools.”
LinkGuard’s Spectrum Web Graphic gives operators a visual display of traffic and interfering signals. Users set a power density threshold for interference above which the modem provides an automatic alarm, available locally on the modem and also via a web server, SNMP traps and physical contact relays. More detailed LinkGuard features, specifications and graphics can be seen in the Paradise white paper, “LinkGuard™ Signal-Under-Carrier Interference Detection.”
