MrsP.com is having their 3rd Annual Be-A-Famous-Writer Contest. MrsP.com is an innovative entertainment website that celebrates books and reading. The site features classic fairy tales read by Mrs. P from her “Magic Library.” Mrs. P is played by Kathy Kinney, best known as Mimi on “The Drew Carey Show.”
Polka Dots Publishing has provided signed copies or promo codes of Penelope the Purple Pirate which has been chosen as a Top 10 Must-Have eBook by lilsugar of Popsugar.com and as a Top 10 Educational iPad App by Digital Storytime. The book is available through Barnes & Noble, Amazon, or Powell’s Independent Bookstore as well as in the iTunes store.
WHAT: 3rd Annual MrsP.com Be-A-Famous-Writer Contest
WHO: The contest sponsors, Powell’s Books, the largest independent bookseller in the world, and Sakura of America, an innovator in writing and artistic tools, are offering prizes to the 10 finalists. Polka Dots Publishing is offering signed copies or promo codes for the storybook app Penelope the Purple Pirate to the first 10 children to enter on September 1, 2011.
WHEN: Entry dates are from September 1, 2011 to October 15, 2011.
HOW: Mrs. P invites children to write a story on any topic, no less than 250 words and not to exceed 1,000 words. It may be fiction or non-fiction. Participants must be between the ages of 4 and 13 years old. There will be two age competition categories: 4 to 8 years of age, and 9 to 13 years of age. The two (2) Grand Prize winners’ stories will be read by Mrs.P and original illustrations will be created. The lucky child will receive an actual copy of the story in addition to having it posted on the web site MrsP.com.
“MrsP.com is excited to be collaborating with author Melissa Northway to provide a little extra incentive for the 4 to 8 age category entrants who will have a choice of a signed book or promo code for the top storybook app Penelope the Purple Pirate,” says Kathy Kinney.
“I chose Penelope the Purple Pirate for the Top 10 Educational list because of its unique emphasis on diversity in an easy to understand narrative for young children. The addition of discussion questions also makes this a versatile book app that can be used for classroom storytime, too!” says Carisa Kluver of Digital Storytime.
Polka Dots Publishing was started in December 2010 by Melissa Northway and offers interactive and educational storybook apps with developer PicPocket Books. Ms. Northway supports programs and contests that support literacy. She has a new app Gerry the Giraffe coming out in October 2011. Read more at: www.melissanorthway.com.
