Redundant Networks Keep Globecomm Customers Online During Hurricane Irene

Globecomm Systems Inc. (NASDAQ: GCOM), a leading global provider of communications solutions and services, successfully maintained video broadcast channels, Internet traffic, cellular switching services, and telecommunications for its customers throughout one of the biggest storms to strike the Mid-Atlantic States since the 1930s.

Globecomm’s Long Island International Teleport as well as its Laurel, Maryland Teleport facility, was in Irene’s path, which caused extensive flooding, power outages, and property damage along the east coast of the United States beginning Friday, August 26th until late Sunday, August 28th. Early Friday morning, the company began moving television, mobile, military and business traffic across its global fiber network to back up teleports, providing seamless cutover of service for customers, including major broadcasting networks, U.S. Government Agencies, and mobile carriers using its Mobile Switching Center.

David Hershberg, Globecomm Chairman and CEO, said: “We take no chances with our customers’ mission-critical communications. That is why our network has been designed as a best-in-class teleport facility, with the diversity needed to maintain the uptime customers demand whatever the conditions.”
