Elke Koenig to become new head of Germany's BaFin-report

BERLIN, Sept 14 Wed Sep 14, 2011 9:59am EDT

BERLIN, Sept 14 (Reuters) - Elke Koenig, a finance expert who formerly worked at the world's third-biggest reinsurer Hannover Re, will become the new head of Germany's financial regulator BaFin, German newspaper Bild reported on Wednesday, citing financial sources. The finance ministry did not have an immediate comment on the report, but a source familiar with its thinking said Koenig is the favourite candidate of Finance Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble and should replace current leader Jochen Sanio as soon as the autumn.
