Sterling hits weakest vs yen since January 2009

LONDON, Sept 19 Mon Sep 19, 2011 7:54am EDT

LONDON, Sept 19 (Reuters) - Sterling hit its lowest against the yen in more than 2 1/2 years on Monday as speculation about the possibility of a Greek debt default prompted investors to sell relatively risky currencies against the yen, which is often considered to be a safe-haven currency.

The pound fell as low as 120.49 yen according to electronic trading platform EBS, its weakest since January 2009. (Reporting by London Markets Team)
