WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama blamed Republicans on Monday for a congressional committee's failure to reach a deficit-cutting deal and vowed to veto any attempt to water down automatic budget cuts that would kick in by early 2013.

Obama, seeking to calm jittery financial markets, said the United States was not facing an imminent threat of default -- as it did last August -- and that "one way or another" there would be at least $2.2 trillion in deficit cuts over 10 years.

He urged lawmakers to redouble efforts to agree on further deficit-cutting measures, telling reporters: "They still have a year to figure it out."

He should point the finger at himself and Harry Reid, but honesty certainly isn’t the democrats forte. If you simply take a look at the democrat members of this committee it’s obvious that they were never serious about passing anything, I mean Patti Murray for Christ’s sake? The democrats torpedoed this from the beginning in hopes for some kind of nefarious political gain. Just remember that when you’re standing in the bread line. The democrats have had two years of a majority in all three branches and another year and a half in two out of three branches and they’re still three years overdue in passing any kind of budget, which is required by law…why?
