Prudential Financial named to G.I. Jobs Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers List
For the second consecutive year, Prudential Financial, Inc. (NYSE:PRU) has been named to the G.I. Jobs Top 100 Military-Friendly Employers List, in recognition of the company's military recruiting and hiring practices.
Criteria for the ranking include the strength of the company's military recruiting efforts, the percentage of new hires with prior military service and policies toward National Guard and reserve service employees. The military produces nearly 400,000 new civilian workers annually, making it one of the largest and most valuable sources of renewable, skilled talent in the country.
“Veterans of our armed forces are a deep pool of talent, including job skills that are sorely needed in the workplace, “says Toni McDaniel, director, Diversity Recruiting. “In addition to having a broad range of technical skills, our servicemen and women often have other important qualities – like leadership skills, strong work ethics and the ability to work well on teams -- that makes recruiting among the men and women who have served in our country’s armed forces, a great talent acquisition strategy.”
Prudential placed in the top third of companies on the 2012 list, ranking No. 27 in the 2012 list, up from No. 59 in 2011. Prudential employs nearly 500 veterans and has hired 108 veterans so far this year alone. The company recently announced the expansion of its veteran training and employment program run by Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS) program. The Newark-based financial services company also announced that it is contributing $6.2 million to 10 nonprofit groups that help U.S. military veterans and their families transition back into civilian life.
“Prudential values the skills and experience of our veteran employees and we are honored to be recognized as a top employer for active and retired military,” McDaniel continued.
Since 2002, the G.I. Jobs Military Friendly Employers list serves as the primary benchmark for corporate recruiting programs aimed at Veterans. The annual survey is used to determine the nation’s most military-friendly employers. The list was drawn from a sample of 5,000 companies whose annual revenues exceed $500 million.
As part of Prudential's longstanding commitment to U.S. Veterans, active service members and veterans already in our employ, Prudential’s Veterans Initiative team coordinates companywide efforts to create sustainable programs for transitioning veterans, and collaborates with corporate peers to support similar programs with an emphasis on providing veterans access to quality education, job training, and employment opportunities. These efforts include Prudential’s sponsorship of VETalent, an innovative training and hiring program run by Workforce Opportunity Services (WOS), a nonprofit 501©(3) organization with a proven track record.
