Diverse projects increase opportunities for middle school students in five cities across the country
MetLife Foundation has announced $500,000 in grants to twelve programs across five cities through its 2011 Out-of-School Time Initiative. The Out-of-School Initiative increases access for middle school students so they can participate in a diverse array of activities. Programs can take place before or after school, on weekends or during the summer months.
“Middle school is a pivotal point in a young person’s development,” said Dennis White, president and CEO, MetLife Foundation. “MetLife Foundation is pleased to recognize and support these programs. Together, they are helping to meet the varied needs and interests of students and helping to keep them safe and engaged when they are not in school. From academic enrichment, community service projects and leadership development activities to arts education and college and career preparation, these programs provide valuable learning opportunities outside of a traditional classroom setting.”
