HONOLULU, Hawaii (Reuters) - President Barack Obama spent a low-key Christmas Day with his wife and daughters in Hawaii, going to church and thanking U.S. troops for their service before hosting friends for dinner at the first family's rented beach house.

The Obamas started opening gifts around 8 a.m. on Sunday and then ate breakfast and sang carols together before heading to the chapel at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii for a Christmas service, the White House said.

Far from Washington officialdom, and making the most of a bright, warm day, Obama dressed casually in a polo shirt and khaki pants to church and Michelle and their daughters Sasha and Malia wore summer dresses.

After a few hours back at their multi-million-dollar temporary home, the president and Michelle Obama returned to the base to shake hands, hold babies and pose for pictures with hundreds of sailors and marines stationed there.

"In the evening, the First Family and friends will celebrate with a Christmas dinner at home," a White House official said. Sam Kass, the White House chef, is spending the holidays with the Obamas and was expected to do the cooking.

Why does every headline have to mention Hawaii like it’s some exotic getaway where no one is born and raised, lives normally, celebrates Christmas… you know, like our president? Do people not know that people actually do stuff on Hawaii besides vacation there?

And can you imagine the headlines four years ago if any other president’s home were treated like this? “BUSH FAMILY CELEBRATES TROPICAL TEXAN HOLIDAY,” hah! Typical mainlander fetishization…

Since when is visiting a chapel on a Marine Base on Christmas Day as a PR stunt the equivalent of “Attending Church” ? Obama is a Muslim. He has no designated Church which he attends regularly. He publicly backed away from the Reverend Jeremiah Wrights’ Church of Hate for White People when it was revealed How much the Pastor and attendees publicly displayed their contempt for America, Our Way of Life, and All White people. Please spare us the MSM pablum about what a “regular guy” who cares about his community and attends the neighborhood church on a regular basis. Obama willfully & purposefully covers up Christian Symbols like the cross when he speaks at Notre Dame and seldom if ever mentions “God” even at times of national tragedy….such as the Ft. Hood massacre…
