Cormac McCarthy Sells First Spec Script

Novelist Cormac McCarthy has sold his first spec script.

McCarthy's books "No Country For Old Men," "All the Pretty Horses" and "The Road" were adapted into feature films -- but he was not involved with the film adaptations.

Recently, the Pulitzer Prize winner broke away from writing his next novel to deliver the spec script for "The Counselor."

Nick Wechsler, Steve and Paula Mae Schwartz, who produced the film adaptation of "The Road," preemptively acquired "The Counselor." They used their own money to buy the spec script.

"The Counselor" has a setup similar to that of "No Country for Old Men": It takes place in the contemporary Southwest, and its plot involves a main character whose dabbling in the drug business leads to disaster. Along with the male protagonist, it features two female leads.

McCarthy is represented by ICM.
