Obama: U.S. will do what it can to help euro zone

WASHINGTON | Thu Feb 9, 2012 3:48pm EST

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - President Barack Obama assured Italian Prime Minister Mario Monti on Thursday that the United States will do whatever it can to help stabilize the situation in the euro zone.

Obama, after White House talks with Monti, also told reporters that he stressed the importance of a strong European financial firewall to contain the euro zone's debt problems.
