Most French favor U.N. military action in Syria: poll

PARIS (Reuters) - A narrow majority of French people would back a U.N.-authorized military intervention in Syria, a poll showed on Friday, a higher percentage than those who had supported the NATO mission that helped oust Libya's Muammar Gaddafi.

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, bolstered by Russian support, is ignoring Western and Arab demands that he end his violent response to 11 months of protests against his rule.

In a survey of 1,200 French people carried out by pollster IFOP for right-leaning information website Atlantico, 51 percent said they would support U.N.-backed military action in Syria.

Fifty-nine percent of opposition Socialist sympathizers would back the initiative, while 56 percent of supporters of President Nicolas Sarkozy's UMP ruling were in favor.

"One of the reasons is the extent of the clashes and the number of victims which continues to climb in Syria and which as a result is pushing (the country) into a civil war," said IFOP's deputy director for opinion polls Jerome Fouquet.

France has been a leading critic of Assad's military crackdown, but has ruled out a military operation without a U.N. mandate - a remote possibility since Russia and China have already vetoed two watered-down Security Council resolutions.

A similar poll carried out before last year's U.N.-mandated military operation to protect civilians and create a no-fly zone in Libya showed only 36 percent of French favored that action.

Fouquet said the change could be "explained by the success of the allied military intervention in Libya which happened in a relatively short period without any French losses and very little collateral damage as a result of air strikes."

Hi All,
Now I am wondering how many Germans before invading France in WW2 favored the military action in France. Could any of them, at that time, say: “I don’t”? But now many French people are deliberately, due to lack of knowledge, pray the world (actually their heroes in NATO which is the right hand of the US Elite families since after WW2) for massacring the Syrian people.
I guess the world has no idea that yesterday, the US hi-tech pressure bombs arrived in my city Aleppo. Yes, the explosive materials used in Iraq (after its occupation) that killed/injured almost ALL young Iraqi soldiers first then aimed the civilians for the same fate almost daily till our days (the toll is millions now), have, at last, arrived into my city and killed/injured yesterday (Feb. 10th, 2011) our first group of young soldiers. The agents of the US Presidential Intelligence Forces are no more hiding themselves (as they were since mid-March 2011) and their hi-tech weapons started to show up, clearly and loudly, in their created bloody chaos on our streets in Syria. So while the good American people work now day and night to pay their bills and taxes (as the Germans were doing in WW2), their leaders pay their agents all the necessary to kill most Syrians, civilians and troops while destroying their economy. I may say that only God and the US Elite know why Syria should be destroyed like Hitler did to Europe.
Sorry, I felt the need to write this short message even if it cannot be posted. I did it just for myself because soon I could be one of the victims hit by these hi-tech bombs (made of high quality) while walking on a street. So, I don’t think a U.N. military action is really needed against the Syrian People right now. Obama’s intelligence attacks have started openly from now on, in order to save their defeated terrorists in hot regions like Homs. The US agents have managed to move freely among us as if their troops occupy Syria much like the case in Iraq.
To be fair, Syrian lives are not more valuable than the thousands who were massacred and sacrificed on Sept 11, 2001 by the same US Presidential Intelligence Forces to gain the power and money for their leaders during the last 10 years while the world was guided to watch their famous series “War on Terror” and its updated ones like “War on Islam” then “War on Dictators”; in short “War on any country”, even War on Syria, my country I am losing :(
Thank you.
