(Reuters) - Madonna has slammed British rapper M.I.A.'s offensive finger gesture during her Super Bowl show as juvenile, negative and out of place.

Speaking on Los Angeles radio station KIIS-FM on Friday, Madonna said she had no idea M.I.A. made the gesture after joining the pop superstar on stage during the halftime show, which was watched on television by more than 114 million Americans.

"I didn't know about it until I left. I was really surprised. I didn't know anything about it," she said, adding that she was not happy.

"I understand it's punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity. It seemed negative. It's one of the those things, it's such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do ... what was the point? It was just out of place," she added.

The NFL and broadcaster NBC both apologized to U.S. viewers, saying the transmission delay system in place to prevent such incidents had failed to work properly.

The watchdog group Parents Television Council protested, blaming both the NFL and NBC for hiring performers "who have based their careers on shock, profanity and titillation".

The Federal Communications Commission, which regulates the use of profanity and nudity on network television, has declined say whether any official complaints have been filed.

Really, Madonna?? So , somehow it slipped by you that M.I.A. is an outspoken, left/progressive, punk rock, in your face, say-what-I-want artist? THAT’S WHY YOU HIRED HER to liven up your new, lame a s s bubblegum-rehash single!! WTF!?!? So , NOW you wanna throw her under the bus, so middle america will buy tickets to your hard-drive driven concert tour? Funny how it took 5 days. You are even more vapid and hypocritical than any of us ever thought. M.I.A, from day one has been an interesting, dynamic artist, one who jolts you, like art is often supposed to. WHAT THE HELL did Madge expect putting her on live TV, or for that matter Nicki Minaj, whose new single is called “Stupid Hoe”. What did Madonna really expect? What a hollow opportunist. I used to be a fan.

First let me say that seeing an exposed / extended middle finger is something that american children can handle .. With that said I find it interesting that Madonna who said ” it’s such a teenager, irrelevant thing to do … what was the point” Yet MIA did the same thing in the “official” Madonna Video

Now with all that being said I thought Madona was FANTASTIC .. n

I’m a loyal American. It is almost as if you need to say that, before making any statements in this era.. . However, No one. will ever again get to “flip off” 114 million Americans. The Prankster in me says ‘WOW”.
Now, how to fix this problem. A performing prenup, in other words you can perform on the biggest stage in the world but, if you choose to break standards that “offend” the audience You or someone who will insure you will pay $1 for every person in the audience that you offended. One vote per person. This is easy to work out, in this age. This is a contract not a violation of free speech. Accountability.
Still, though, on the previous note, I might have done it also but, I will never have that chance will I? Some one else will. And Babs, well, she is showing her age and her hypocrisy, earlier in her career she would not have thought it offensive. C’mon, she hung herself like Jesus to move her career along by way of audacity. Over the top is where it is headed now, don’t like it, that’s too bad. You have no choices now.
