TEHRAN (Reuters) - Iranian security forces deployed in parts of Tehran on Tuesday after opposition figures called on supporters to hit the streets in protest against the year-long house arrest of their leaders, the opposition website Kaleme reported.

"Azadi (Freedom) Square is surrounded by security forces and their number, as well as the number of citizens, is increasing by the minute," Kaleme reported, adding that police forces were also conspicuously present in other parts of the capital.

"There was a minor clash between security forces and people in Enqelab (Revolution) street," the website said, without giving further details. Kaleme's report could not be independently verified by Reuters.

Iranian authorities had warned in recent days they would crack down on any public protest to mark the anniversary of the curbs imposed on opposition leaders Mirhossein Mousavi and Mehdi Karoubi.

Iran is at loggerheads with the West and facing increasingly crippling international sanctions, now targeting its lifeblood oil industry, over its disputed uranium enrichment program.

Tehran will hold a parliamentary election in early March, its first national vote since Mousavi and Karoubi were beaten by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad in a 2009 vote they said was rigged.

The government has repeatedly denied any fraud in the election, which ignited eight months of street protests, prompting a violent state crackdown and causing deep splits in the ruling establishment.

The Iranian authorities accuse opposition leaders of being part of a Western plot to overthrow the Islamic system. They deny such allegations.

Last year thousands of Iranian opposition activists rallied in support of popular uprisings in Egypt and Tunisia.

Dozens of people were killed and thousands arrested during the post-election unrest that engulfed major towns and cities in the worst political upheaval in the Islamic Republic's history.

Perhaps the silent protest was muted because although there may be some political differences amongst the Iranian people which is common everywhere, but all people in Iran are united in support of the Islamic revolution led by the late Ayatollah Khomeini (may Allah be pleased with him) in 1979 that ousted the evil, corrupt, murderous U.S. puppets the House of Pahlavi and restored to the Iranian people their national dignity, pride and honor. Perhaps the silent protest was exceptionally quiet because of a collective sense of foreboding amongst the Iranian people because of rumors of war with Israel, the Zionist beast of racialism, who got over $3,200,000,000 in U.S. Foreign Aid last year and spends over $15,000,000,000 yearly on its military budget and is somehow threatened by an economic sanctions engulfed Iran who spends about $7.1 billion annually on its military, and hence Israel, the usurper of Arab lands, is perhaps poised to unleash its hellish winged legions of death-bombers upon them. Hence, the people of Iran are putting their differences aside whilst there is a common enemy (in this case Israel, the dishonorer of the Sabbath) and uniting to proudly defend their nation if need be. But only a sick and demented mind would even entertain the thoughts of Zionist Israel, the illegitimate child of the U.S.A. & Britain, launching an unprovoked military attack upon Iran. The oil companies, the military-industrial complex and the pro-Zionists in Washington D.C. and in the media are itching to shed more innocent Muslim blood despite the worldwide economic catastrophe that would result from more senseless war. Nuclear power is something that the people of Iran from all walks of life, pro-government or anti-government, support. Fossil fuels like oil and natural gas are a finite resource. The big oil companies are surely smiling at the thought of $5/gallon or more gasoline prices in the United States in the event of an Israeli (and/or U.S. & U.K.) attack on Iran. Ironically a preemptive military strike against Iran would unify the people of the country, thusly strengthening the theocratic regime that Israel & the West so loathe. Mir-Hossein Mousavi , like all of the citizenry of Iran, a supportive of Iran’s Nuclear energy efforts. Nuclear power is an inalienable right of any nation. Nuclear weapons are another matter; Iran should not develop Nuclear weapons. Weapons of Mass Destruction are ungodly and should be banned worldwide. Only a devilish people bereft of morality would ever use a W.M.D. upon humans in any circumstances.
