Russia's Putin warns against attacks on Iran, Syria
MOSCOW |
MOSCOW (Reuters) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin said Russia is concerned about the "growing threat" of an attack on Iran over its nuclear program, warning that the consequences would be "truly catastrophic."
In an article on foreign policy for publication on Monday, six days before a March 4 presidential election he is almost certain to win, Putin also warned Western and Arab nations against military intervention in Syria.
"I very much hope the United States and other countries ... do not try to set a military scenario in motion in Syria without sanction from the U.N. Security Council," Putin said, according to a transcript.
On Iran, he said that "the growing threat of a military strike on this country alarms Russia, no doubt. If this occurs, the consequences will be truly catastrophic. It is impossible to imagine their real scale."

in fact we don’t want any kind of war whatsoever. Though we can’t speak for the corporations & governments who have vested interest in War.
So what if Iran wants a nuclear Weapon? we have them, & we were supposed to be destroying ours under the NPT, but there seems to be a complete lack of action on the western front in doing so. North Korea pulled out of the NPT because of broken promises by the USA (seems to be a common occurence the USA breaking promises).
The west interferes too much in the middle east. & let’s not kid ourselves here, if there was no oil in the middle east, the west would shove them aside like there’s no tomorrow.
The USA is taunting Iran & Iran is standing up & taunting back. They insist their nuclear research is for electricity production, the west says they’re making bombs. this could go on & on. Israel doesw not want Iran having a bomb, even though israel has them. we’d call that hypocrisy elsewhere.
But is there a danger of Iran ever using a nuclear device on another country? or is it just a case of we want them because you have them & it will not be used as a 1st strike weapon? bearing in mind, Everyone was scared of the North Koreans becoming a nuclear state. yet to this day they have neither threatened or attempted to threaten any other country with their use. There’s a lot of scaremongering going on, I can see both sides of the story, & I can also understand the reluctance of Iran to comply with the IAEA because really the west doesn’t really have a good track record when it comes to being fair. To this date, only 1 country has ever launched an atomic device & it wasn’t once but twice, was there a need to drop those bombs, many historians today say NO. but history is history. we’re in the 21st century now & in all honesty, we should all be helping each other, there should be no need for wars.
But the same groups of people who controlled the planet back during the last world wars & many other wars prior are still in control of the planet today, the corporations that sprung up, the oil industry, the international banks, they all fund each side, & they all have vast interest in making wars happen. wars create debt & debt gives them control. so instead of everyone helping each other & making life easier & better for everyone, we’re stuck in the same old state as we were decades ago & probably going backwards in some ways. Democracy is just a smokescreen & merely just an illusion & we let those that cause the problems get away with it every single time, in fact not only do they get a way with it, but most the time they get promoted.
