Cast of The West Wing Reunite in Funny Or Die Video
Beloved cast reunites to spread important message about the health benefits of walking
Comedy website Funny Or Die and Every Body Walk! present the first reunion of the cast of The West Wing in more than 5 years. West Wing regulars Martin Sheen (President Josiah Bartlett), Allison Janney (C.J. Cregg), Joshua Malina (Will Bailey), Dulé Hill (Charlie Young), Melissa Fitzgerald (Carol Fitzpatrick), and William Duffy (Larry) got together to shoot a humorous Public Service Announcement about the importance of walking in maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The PSA will debut on the front page of Funny Or Die’s website on May 1.
“We were known for walking and talking,” said award-winning actor Martin Sheen while shooting the reunion video. It was for that very reason that Every Body Walk! and Funny Or Die chose The West Wing as the perfect vehicle to promote this message of the importance of walking just 30 minutes a day.
“We’re thrilled at how the Funny Or Die creative team captured the feel of The West Wing,” said Brian Gerber and Thomas Rigler of Gerber Rigler, Executive Producers of the Every Body Walk! Campaign. “The PSA allows us to spread information about the tremendous health benefits of walking in a funny and engaging fashion while staying completely on message.”
The West Wing reunion video perfectly mimics the pace and style of the award-winning TV program. It even concludes with a visit to President Jeb Bartlett’s oval office. The PSA debuted during a gala party on opening night of the Digital Hollywood conference, held at the Ritz-Carlton in Marina del Rey, California on Monday April 30th. Members of The West Wing cast plus other comedy celebrities were in attendance.
As part of the effort to make as many people aware of the video as possible, Funny Or Die and Every Body Walk! are encouraging anyone who watches the video to tweet about it using the hashtag #WestWingReunion. Several West Wing cast members will be doing so.
Every Body Walk! campaign partners include an alliance of more than 30 organizations such as the American College of Sports Medicine, Partnership for a Healthier America, Kaiser Permanente Thrive, Molina Health Care, the American Cancer Society, Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, City Parks Alliance, Smart Growth America, Safe Routes to School National Partnership, Power Rangers emPOWER Save the Children and America Walks to name a few.
“The aim of the Every Body Walk! campaign is to inform Americans about the importance of walking for as little as 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week,” said Bob Sallis, MD, from the American College of Sports Medicine and its Exercise is Medicine® global initiative. “Walking is good physical exercise for everyone and for those with conditions like diabetes, asthma, heart disease and depression, a routine walking regimen has added benefit to managing these diseases. I’m a strong believer in the power of walking and that’s why I literally prescribe it to my patients as front line medicine – often instead of medications.”
