Alloy Digital Acquires Clevver Media, YouTube's Top Ranking Entertainment News Provider
NEW YORK, June 18, 2012 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Alloy Digital, LLC ("Alloy Digital" or the "Company"), a leading next generation media company for the 12-34 demographic and a top-10 video network, announced today that it has acquired YouTube's top entertainment news provider, Clevver Media. With the move, Alloy Digital's owned and operated channels ascend to No. 1 in total YouTube subscribers, counting over 8 million, and make them among YouTube's largest content providers.
Clevver Media's seven entertainment and celebrity focused YouTube channels that include ClevverTV, ClevverMovies, ClevverMusic, ClevverGames, ClevverNews, ClevverStyle and the Spanish language ClevverTeVe, attract top-tier Hollywood talent and garner more monthly views from prime 12-34 viewers than the next seven most popular entertainment channels on YouTube combined. Launched in 2006, Clevver has earned a trusted reputation for entertainment news geared toward the digital generation and consistently ranks in the top-10 YouTube networks, according to industry measurement leader, ComScore Media Metrix. The acquisition instantly pushes Alloy Digital's network to the top of the entertainment news category.
In addition to Clevver, in the last year Alloy Digital has acquired three strong content creators beginning in July 2011 with Smosh, an online leader in teen and young adult comedy content and the third most subscribed YouTube channel; Generate, a next generation studio and talent management company in January 2012; and B5 Media, the fastest-growing women's lifestyle digital publishing and media networks, in April 2012. The Company is eyeing further acquisitions.
With these moves, Alloy Digital's network of media platforms further strengthens its leadership position in reaching the coveted 12-34 consumer market with branding opportunities across multiple, highly specialized and vertically integrated platforms. Alloy Digital is the only next generation media company with expertise and capabilities mirroring the best of both old Hollywood and the new digital era all under one roof: Generate's cost-effective development, production and talent management, original programming from creators such as Smosh and Clevver, distribution across Alloy Digital's top-ranked network of media platforms and monetization through sponsorship, ad sales, social media and promotion.
Alloy Digital's CEO Matt Diamond stated, "Through an aggressive acquisition strategy and organic growth, we continue to strengthen our connection with the 12-34 demographic with quality programming tailored to their pop culture cravings and distributed via their preferred media platforms. In just a few years, our properties are delivering massive audiences equal to or greater than broadcast and cable networks, while also fulfilling the expectations of our partners and advertisers with measurable media value and innovative branding opportunities."
He added, "Clevver represented a logical step in this expansion with its wildly popular entertainment brand. No one does entertainment news better or has been more successful at it, and we are thrilled to have their channels join Alloy Digital's family."
"The combination of a YouTube powerhouse that we've created with Clevver Media and Alloy Digital's network makes for an interesting pairing with tremendous possibilities," said Michael Palmer, co-founder and executive producer of Clevver Media, who will continue to lead the operation along with co-founder Jorge Maldonado. "We are excited to leverage our brand as part of such a dynamic and forward-thinking media company, and differentiate ourselves both creatively and strategically in the marketplace."
The addition of Clevver makes the Company one of YouTube's top content producers in the world. Combined, the two companies now own and operate five of YouTube's 100 premium channel offerings, as well as three of its fastest-growing channels, including the No. 3-ranked property. Clevver Media was the first company to launch programming with ClevverTeVe, its newest channel focused on the rapidly expanding Latin market, as part of YouTube's original programming initiative.
The YouTube footprint of Alloy Digital's brands gains nearly one million subscribers and 1.6 billion video views with 6-year-old Clevver Media's category-leading properties, bringing total video views for their combined owned and operated channels to Top 3 status among all YouTube channels with more than 3.35 billion measured views.
The Clevver properties will be combined with Alloy Digital's own highly popular YouTube channels, including Smosh and its spinoff Shut Up! Cartoons, which has soared to more than 24 million video views since launching April 30. Shut Up! Cartoons currently ranks as the third fastest-growing premium original content channel, according to VidStatsX, catapulting to Top 250 in the full YouTube channel universe in just six weeks.
The Company will also greatly benefit from extensive and ongoing cross-promotion through its owned YouTube channels and websites, as well as to the 14 million followers of its multiple active social media profiles. Alloy Digital's leading digital media and video network connects with a total audience of more than 90 million consumers with reach to over 53% of P12-34 internet users and delivers more than 300 million monthly video streams.
