Crocodile RCS announces support for HTML5 applications using WebSockets on its SuperNode cloud communications platform

Regulatory News:

Crocodile RCS Ltd, a subsidiary of Devoteam Group (Paris:DVT), announced that its SuperNode cloud communications systems and hosted RCS service now support HTML5-based applications using RTCweb and WebSockets standards.

According to John Parr, Crocodile’s MD – “HTML5 and associated standards will revolutionise the way users access communications from both fixed and mobile devices. They allow web applications to control real-time voice and video communications directly from the browser, making it unnecessary to download soft clients or apps. This will likely spark a new wave of innovative web applications and services. It’s a huge benefit to developers for their app or service to run seamlessly across many types of phone or other device - rather than needing to rely on the underlying capabilities of the OS. Our current SuperNode release, aptly named SuperNode 2.0, supports the latest WebSockets standards – RFC 6455 [1] and draft-ietf-sipcore-sip-websocket-01 [2]. Versions of all the common browsers are already available with HTML5, WebSocket, and RTCweb support - so it’s only a matter of time before this technology becomes mainstream. Crocodile has already deployed the network capability to support it”.

HTML5 is a Worldwide Web Consortium (W3C) standard supported by all the leading browsers. RTCweb is an IETF standard created to enable direct interactive rich communications between browsers. WebSockets is an IETF standard that enables two-way communication between untrusted code running within a browser and a remote host.

The likely impact of HTML5 on Telco strategies was the subject of a recent Telco 2.0™ research report - http://www.telco2research.com/articles/EB_HTML5-what-does-it-mean-for-telcos_Summary
