Euro extends gains, hits 4-mth high vs dollar

SINGAPORE, Sept 12 (Reuters) - The euro extended gains and hit a four-month high against the dollar on Wednesday following reports that quoted Spain's prime minister as saying he was considering asking for help from the European Central Bank's bond-buying programme.

The euro rose to $1.2883 on trading platform EBS, its highest level since mid-May, and last stood at $1.2880, up 0.2 percent from late U.S. trade on Tuesday.
