WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Hours after Democrats kept control of the Senate and retained the White House, Senate Democratic Leader Harry Reid called for bipartisan cooperation on tackling the federal budget deficit and looming tax issues.

"We have to sit down and go to work on it now, not wait. This was really the message the American people sent," Reid said at a Capitol Hill news conference, adding he is willing to negotiate with Republicans "any time, any issue."

President Barack Obama, Reid and other Democrats will have little time to savor their victories with numerous urgent budget and spending issues fast approaching at year-end. Republicans and Democrats have been deeply divided for years on fiscal policy.

This is the biggest issue facing America. We can’t have anymore spending. We have to let the Bush tax cuts expire for everyone. We have to get out of Afghanistan and not start any new wars. We will have to cut spending in almost every area. The Payroll tax has to end. We need to make up $1 trillion a year, not $1 trillion over 10 years. If the Congress and Senate fails to work together over the next two years you will see a Republican Senate in 2014. I think the Tea Party is dead and Republicans have learned that religion and politics don’t mix. Democrats have to prove that they are not completely inept at fiscal policy.

Well, Mr. Reid maybe you need to pull Mr. Obama aside and talk with him about using rational, prudent, and non contemptuous approaches when trying to settle really big issues in America. Otherwise, I wouldn’t get the president all excited thinking the red carpet is going to get rolled out for him. Though i’m sure he would love everyone to bow down before him and kiss his feet, it’s just not going to happen.
