Nokia sees no change in relationship with Microsoft
BARCELONA |
BARCELONA (Reuters) - Nokia's chief executive said there would be no change in the relationship with its software partner Microsoft, despite the software giant's entry into tablets and partnerships with rival phone makers.
Stephen Elop said Nokia retained a "special" relationship with Microsoft, even though others such as HTC have also launched phones with Windows Phone software.
"They're not sitting in the priority meetings that we're sitting in," he said at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecoms conference in Barcelona on Wednesday.
Analysts have said Microsoft could one day become a rival to Nokia if it launches its own smartphones, while there is also speculation that the U.S. company could one day acquire the Finnish phone manufacturer.

If apple let other companies make the iphone do you think the other ios phones wouldn’t sell? I think they would. The only people who would for sure buy the apple iphone are the core apple fans. Most other people would care less and go for the company they like or if there is a bigger ios phone, or they would buy a phone in a color they want, or one with a better build quality. Some people say apple doesn’t want clones because they want to keep quality up…but with issues past iphones and ipads have had quality isn’t that great. I think the main thing apple is scared of is that more people would buy the clones than the apple devices.
I don’t think any company should be afraid of Microsoft making their own products. They only thing they should be afraid of is if Microsoft decides to only make their own products which I doubt will happen. The OEM’s are making some nice products, the only thing Microsoft should try and stop is the junkware OEM’s put on their systems, laptops and tablets. The junk that people don’t need or use. The junk that people like me get rid of as soon as I get a new system.
