RIO DE JANEIRO Nov 16 (Reuters) - The Brazilian real on Friday weakened past the level of 2.1 per dollar, widely seen as the limit of an informal trading band, as investors tested the central bank's tolerance to a weaker currency.

At 9:17 p.m. (1117 GMT), the real lost 0.27 percent to 2.1035 per U.S. dollar, its weakest level in over 3-1/2 years.
