WASHINGTON |
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Former U.S. Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney arrived at the White House on Thursday for private talks with President Barack Obama, their first meeting since this month's election.
Romney, who lost a bitterly fought contest to the Democratic incumbent, stepped out of a black sport-utility vehicle at around 12:30 p.m. (1730 GMT) and entered the West Wing of the White House.
The lunch meeting is a chance for Obama to show bipartisanship at a time when he is seeking Republican cooperation to avoid a looming "fiscal cliff."
For Romney, it is an opportunity to begin rebuilding his political stature after his party's disappointing outcome in the November 6 election.

That leaves $1T+ deficits projected every year going forward, $16T in national debt, and $52T in unfunded entitlement liabilities to pay for….the arithmetic clearly exposes our problem as being FAR too large to solve via taxation.
Now you can clearly, mathematically see that even AFTER Obama’s tax the rich plan is effected, we have some daunting debts to rectify.
Obama and the Dems currently have not put forth any semblance of a feasible plan on this front; what’s worse: They may NEVER address spending cuts and entitlement reform in earnest because it would be politically unpalatable….
you get the medal for posting the same opinions on multiple article comment sections – going for a record are we, or just can’t get your finger off the cut&paste button. also, maybe you could enlighten us on the non-existant gop plan (other than stonewalling everything).
