HumanaVitality Achieves NCQA Accreditation for Wellness and Health Promotion

Achievement demonstrates company’s commitment to quality within its wellness solution

HumanaVitality®, a comprehensive wellness and rewards solution that incentivizes people to make healthier choices, has earned National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) Accreditation for Wellness and Health Promotion with Performance Reporting. HumanaVitality is one of only 19 wellness organizations in the United States to achieve this Accreditation.

HumanaVitality, LLC, a joint venture between health and wellness company Humana Inc. (NYSE: HUM) and Discovery Holdings, Ltd., provides commercial fully insured and ASO employers with an integrated, comprehensive wellness solution for helping employees and their families live healthier lives. HumanaVitality is also available to individual HumanaOne® major medical members within approved states.

NCQA’s Wellness and Health Promotion Accreditation comprehensively evaluates key areas of health promotion, including how wellness programs are implemented in the workplace, how services are provided to help eligible individuals develop skills to make healthy choices, and how sensitive health information is properly safeguarded. The Accreditation is a nationally recognized evaluation that consumers and employers can use to assess wellness programs.

Through HumanaVitality, members are given a unique, personalized wellness plan and are rewarded for making healthier lifestyle choices such as obtaining preventive screenings, exercising, donating blood or getting CPR-certified. For each healthier choice or activity, members receive Vitality Points™ that, when accrued, allow members to achieve greater Vitality Status™ levels and rewards opportunities.

To achieve the Accreditation, HumanaVitality participated in a voluntary review process guided by NCQA standards that provide a framework of the HumanaVitality member experience. Program policies and processes across HumanaVitality and all partner organizations were thoroughly examined.

The Accredited with Performance Reporting status is granted to wellness and health promotion organizations that submit a specific number of results for NCQA’s standardized performance measures, in addition to meeting or exceeding NCQA’s standards. Those standards are purposely set high and include everything from employer and plan sponsor engagement, privacy and confidentiality to engaging the population and incentives management, to name a few.

“NCQA’s Wellness and Health Promotion Accreditation requires organizations to demonstrate their compliance with well-defined standards and quality measures,” said Margaret E. O’Kane, NCQA president. “The NCQA seal will provide employers and consumers with the information they need to choose the best program in their markets.”

HumanaVitality’s NCQA Accreditation is valid through September 2015. In order to maintain Accreditation with Performance Reporting, HumanaVitality will annually provide information and documentation to demonstrate adherence to those measures and standards.
