Congress Republicans insist on linking debt limit, spending

WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Republican congressional leaders on Monday repeated their demand that increases in borrowing authority must be accompanied by spending cuts, despite President Barack Obama's insistence that the two issues be dealt with separately.

Obama must get "serious about spending and the debt limit is the perfect time for it," said Senate Republican leader Mitch McConnell in a statement just moments after Obama concluded a news conference in which he said he would not negotiate on the debt limit.

""The American people do not support raising the debt ceiling without reducing government spending at the same time," said House of Representatives Speaker John Boehner. (Reporting by Richard Cowan and Thomas Ferraro; Editing by Sandra Maler)

Of course they do. They want to destroy our economy so they can run on the argument that the policies of economists don’t work and that the Republican way (trickle-down economics) is the only way. Then the rich can get even richer while everyone else gets even poorer. And when that approach starts to wane, they can trump up another war, or some other drama-filled excuse to continue wringing the Middle Class dry of its wealth and shifting it to the rich. They are far better at class warfare than America’s proletariat.

We need to overhaul the tax system, cut DOD spending, put Congress on medicare and SS like everyone else. Do not follow the GOP mantra of cutting all the social programs since they hate workers and instead love the tax cheats and tax abusers of the top 2% along with their lobbyists. The GOP are fanatics and their agenda is not good for most AMericans and thus mainstream AMerica opposes everything the GOP stand for.
