WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Top Republican lawmaker John Boehner said on Wednesday that he would oppose any delay in the automatic budget cuts that are set to kick in March 1, without other spending cuts and reforms.

"At some point Washington has to deal with its spending problem," Boehner, the speaker of the House of Representatives, told reporters.

About $85 billion in across-the-board budget cuts will go into effect if Congress does not pass legislation to change the law. Half of the cuts will hit the defense department.

More posturing. Boehner and his allies routinely oppose spending cuts. What he’s actually saying here is “We will pass the spending cuts we want to pass and nothing else.”

This CBO analysis ‘assumed’ significant revenue increases that will come from an improving economy (higher tax receipts). No one, including Obama, disputes this..

The spending cuts that have been called ‘sequestration’ reduce Federal spending by $85B/yr; not enough to achieve the $2T needed to stabilize our Debt.
The time has come to realize that Obama’s ‘big government’ agenda is bankrupting this country. Ever higher taxes is not the answer.. Smaller Government IS……….

I am a leftie, but I say let the cuts begin – no more kicking the can down the street. Congress has had two years and has no intention of doing anything about the economy, so just do the cuts across the board. Get rid of the tea party in 2014 and try to put this country back to together again.
