Sugar Industry Veteran Christophe Armero Joins Beta San Miguel Group

Beta San Miguel, the largest private sugar producing group in Mexico, announces the appointment of Christophe Armero as Director – International Business and Strategy. In this newly-created position Mr. Armero will represent Beta San Miguel in export markets principally the USA.

Under the North American Free Trade Agreement, in 2008, the U.S. and Mexican sweetener markets were unified and trade flows in both directions have been growing. The U.S. exports high fructose corn syrup (HFCS) to Mexico and Mexico exports sugar to the U.S.

Dr. Jose Pinto, President of the Beta San Miguel Group, says, “We are very pleased to have someone of Chris’ high caliber joining Beta San Miguel. This year our exports will represent more than 30% of production and we expect this trend to continue, giving the U.S. and international markets major importance to the Group. We believe Chris’ background and successful experience will propel our business in the U.S. and help consolidate Beta San Miguel as a major quality supplier to U.S. sugar users.”

Christophe Armero has over 30 years experience in the sugar industry having started his career at Tate & Lyle in London in 1982. He has worked in the UK, Mexico, Spain and the U.S. in a variety of executive and leadership roles centered around trading, sales and marketing and strategy and business development.

Beta San Miguel owns six sugar cane mills distributed around Mexico and this year will produce in excess of 900,000 MT of estandar, white and refined sugar.
