SECU Youth Saved $3.15 Million During Challenge Week!

As part of National Credit Union Youth Week and North Carolina’s Financial Literacy Month, State Employees’ Credit Union (SECU) held its annual Youth Saving Challenge April 22nd – April 26th to encourage young members to take advantage of the benefit of saving! With a theme of “Stache your cash!,” SECU challenged the Credit Union’s young FAT CAT and teen Zard members to “stache” a deposit into their share account during Youth Week. Participating account holders were automatically entered into a random drawing for a Nook HD Tablet, with one FAT CAT and one Zard winner. Staff in SECU’s 248 branches creatively promoted the campaign with eye-catching displays. SECU staff also took the time to visit local schools and teach financial education concepts. The Challenge results? SECU opened 612 new youth accounts and over 17,300 youth deposited $3.15 million throughout the week!

Kevin Watson, Senior Vice President of SECU’s Dunn branch comments, “The Youth Saving Challenge event is a great way to communicate and motivate young children to learn about the importance of saving. The branch employees and FAT CAT, our youth mascot, have fun promoting the branch event with SECU’s young members and their families and enjoy sharing the knowledge of basic money concepts through local school and community presentations.”
