Reduced shrinkage will improve quality and productivity of display devices

AGC, a world-leading manufacturer of glass, chemicals and high-tech materials, announced today that AN Wizus™, a glass substrate with the world's lowest level of thermal shrinkage, will be offered for use in high-resolution display panels, such as those used in smartphones and tablets, beginning this month.

AGC will display AN Wizus™ at the Society for Information Display (SID) show in Vancouver from May 20.

High-resolution display panels, such as low-temperature polysilicon liquid crystal and organic electroluminescent displays, increasingly are being adopted for smartphones and tablets. Shrinkage of the glass substrate due to high-temperature processing, however, can significantly lower the quality and manufacturing productivity of high-resolution display panels.

AGC manufactures glass substrates using the float process, which enables optimal slow cooling for low-level shrinkage. The company's existing AN100 glass substrate now used by numerous customers features one of the industry's lowest levels of thermal shrinkage. AN Wizus™, which also is manufactured with the float process and features an upgraded glass composition, limits shrinkage to one fifth that of AN100, creating high expectations for improved performance quality and manufacturing productivity of high-resolution display panels.
