JERUSALEM (Reuters) - The Israeli army fired into Syria on Monday after its troops were shot at on the occupied Golan Heights, the military said.

"Gunfire was opened from Syria towards IDF (Israel Defense Forces) soldiers in the central Golan Heights. The force retaliated towards the threat and a hit was confirmed," a military statement said.

There were no Israeli casualties in the incident.

An Israeli military source said that the brief exchange of fire happened near the Quneitra border crossing and that the Israeli troops said they were fired on by a Syrian soldier.

The army was still checking whether its troops were the target of the gunfire, the source said.

Hours earlier a Syrian mortar shell landed in the Druze village of Majdal Shams on the Israeli-held Golan, near Israel's security fence. No casualties were reported.

Fire from the Syrian civil war has occasionally spilled over into the Golan, which Israel captured from Syria in the 1967 Middle East war. Israel annexed the strategic plateau in 1981 in a move that was not internationally recognized.

Where are Reuters editors?

Israel KILLS your reporters and you STILL do not report actual facts about the country that has TARGETED and killed your reporters, ON PURPOSE.

At least do their memory proud. How about the families of those Reuters reporters targeted and killed by Israel, don’t they deserve some truth?

The Golan Heights was STOLEN. Various high-ranking Israeli officials have admitted this, any competent reporter knows this fact full well as well as the New Historians who have documented this fact.

The so-called “annexation” of the Golan Heights is ILLEGAL. You know this or should know this fact if you are going to let these cub reporters write stories about further action in the Golan.

As you should know, UNSCR 497, adopted UNANIMOUSLY including the United States makes quite clear that Israel’s STEALING of the Golan Heights is illegal!

What part of ILLEGAL do your reporters not get?

Why can you not simply report the truth? What does Israel have on Reuters that prevents Reuters from telling the truth about the clearly rogue and out of control state of Israel?

There must be something because anyone can quickly go to the UN Web site and view this resolution for themselves so why would Reuters lie about the status of the Golan?
