Turkish banks' January profit down 43.9 pct - watchdog

ISTANBUL, March 10 (Reuters) - The Turkish banking sector's net profit in January fell 43.9 percent year-on-year to 1.415 billion lira ($641.6 million), the banking watchdog BDDK said on Monday.

The sector's loans rose 34.8 percent from a year earlier to 1,08 billion lira. ($1 = 2.2055 Turkish liras) (Writing by Seda Sezer)
