(Reuters) - Boeing Co (BA.N) said it signed a $2.8 billion contract with NASA to develop the core stage of the Space Launch System (SLS).

The agreement comes as NASA and Boeing complete the Critical Design Review on the core stage, the last major review before full production begins, Boeing said.

I am surprised if I am thinking the same product development that Boeing was able to get continued funding to further develop what is at its core an old design somewhat like putting Toyota trim on a Geo Prism LSI to make it look like the more valued Toyota Corolla, unless NASA did continued funding for all 3 competitors to get to the next stage.
