WASHINGTON, July 16 (Reuters) - The Washington Post included the following items on the front page of its business section on Wednesday.

General Motors (GM.N) will try to cut expenses by $15 billion by the end of next year through a combination of job reductions, production slowdowns, terminated retiree benefits and salary freezes, the company said.

Some lawmakers expressed doubts about the wisdom of the federal government's plan to prop up mortgage finance giants Fannie Mae FMA.N and Freddie Mac (FRE.N), with one Republican senator complaining it was tantamount to writing a "blank check" to save the troubled companies.
