LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - Following are five key facts about Daniel Day-Lewis, who won the best actor Oscar on Sunday for his role as an ambitious early 20th century oil entrepreneur in "There Will Be Blood."

-- Daniel Day-Lewis, 50, was born in London and has dual Irish-British citizenship. He is son of English Poet Laureate Cecil Day-Lewis.

-- He won an Oscar for the 1989 film "My Left Foot" in which he played a man with cerebral palsy who learns to write and paint with his foot.

-- Day-Lewis worked for four years to hone his character in "There Will Be Blood" in which he plays a man driven to succeed and who has little liking for fellow human beings.

-- He is sometimes called the "English Robert De Niro."

-- "There Will Be Blood" has grossed just over $40 million worldwide in theatrical receipts, most of that at the U.S. box office.
