PARIS (Reuters) - Cable operator Liberty Global (LBTYA.O: Quote, Profile, Research, Stock Buzz) generated very strong organic growth in the fourth quarter, adding new users of individual services, Chief Executive Mike Fries said on Wednesday.
The company, which provides television, telephone and high-speed Internet services, had projected between 1.1 million and 1.2 million new revenue generating units (RGU), excluding acquisitions, in 2005 in Europe, Japan and Chile.
"If you looked at our guidance through nine months, we were on pace -- if not ahead of pace -- and we had a very strong fourth quarter," Fries said at the Reuters Global Technology, Media and Telecoms Summit in Paris.
"If we're not the fastest, we're one of the fastest growing cable platforms in the world when it comes to organic growth," he added.
Fries declined to provide any specific figures ahead of the company's annual results, which are slated to be released later in March.
Liberty Global, based in Englewood, Colorado, and part of cable mogul John Malone's vast media empire, is the second largest cable operator in the world and the biggest in Europe.
